Dr. Jesús F. de la Teja is Jerome H. and Catherine E. Supple Professor of Southwestern Studies and Director of the Center for the Study of the Southwest at Texas State University, where he also served as chairman of the department of history from 2005 to 2011. He was the inaugural State Historian of Texas (2007- 2009) and has served,on the board of directors and as president of the Texas State Historical Association.

He has published extensively on Spanish, Mexican, and Republic-era Texas, most recently Recollections of a Tejano Life: Antonio Menchaca in Texas History and an edited volume of biographies, Tejano Leadership in Mexican and Revolutionary Texas. He has served as book review editor for the Southwestern Historical Quarterly since 1997 and between,1990 and 2005 served as managing editor of the journal of the Texas Catholic Historical Society. He is a Fellow of the Texas State Historical Association and the Texas Catholic Historical Society and a member of the Texas Institute of Letters and the Philosophical Society of Texas.
